What Should I Do If My Door Has Been Forced?

Coming home to a door that has been forced open is a most unpleasant occurrence. In today’s blog, we are going to give you some advice on what to do if this happens to you.

Call the Police

If you have just arrived home and you see that your door has been forced, and you don’t know if someone is inside, then call the police. Don’t put yourself in danger by exploring the premises yourself. Let the police first determine that no one is in the process of ransacking your place.

Address the Door

The door will obviously have to be repaired or replaced, and that usually doesn’t happen instantly. So, first determine if you are able to close the door and seal it shut. You may have to close it up with plywood—if you have some.

Take Stock

Once the door is addressed you will have to take stock of what, if anything, is missing or damaged. This is for insurance purposes, and you should take photos. Next, you will have to clean up the mess if there is one. You may need to bring in professionals to do that if it’s bad.

Security

Last, once the first things on this list are taken care of, you may want to assess if you need some kind of security system and get some estimates for security professionals. A video camera filming the front door will be a big deterrent in the future.
